Our school has a museum that has existed for several years.

For the first time we came here on an excursion in 2006, in 1st grade.

Here we saw expositions dedicated to the history of the school, the history of the village, and the Great Patriotic War. But we were more interested in the exposition, where antiques and household items were collected.

Then we just looked at them, but now, in the 6th grade, we became interested: how these objects were called, how they were used, who made them, from what, whose hands were holding these objects! But all these things once belonged to the inhabitants of our Alexandrovka and those villages that have already disappeared. There are no villages or inhabitants, but the things remained. So we decided to learn about them as much as possible and tell everyone who visits our school museum.

So. Let's start our virtual journey ...

In the "Explanatory Dictionary" it is written: "Utensils are a collection of objects that a person needs in his daily life."

What did our ancestors need in their household?

It was hard to imagine a peasant house without numerous utensils that had accumulated for decades, if not centuries, and literally filled the space. In the Russian countryside, utensils were called "everything movable in the house, dwelling," according to the words. In fact, utensils are the totality of objects that a person needs in his everyday life. Utensils are utensils for preparing, preparing and storing food, serving it on the table; various containers for storing household items, clothes; items for personal hygiene and home hygiene; items for kindling fire, storing and consuming tobacco, and for cosmetics. In the Russian countryside, mainly wooden pottery was used. Metal, glass, porcelain were less common. Wooden utensils according to the manufacturing technique could be hollowed out, cooper's, carpentry, turning. Utensils made of birch bark, woven from twigs, straw, pine roots were also in great use. Some of the necessary wooden items for the household were made by the efforts of the male half of the family. Most of the items were purchased at fairs, marketplaces, especially cooper and lathe utensils, the manufacture of which required special knowledge and tools. Pottery was mainly used for cooking food in an oven and serving it on the table, sometimes for salting and pickling vegetables. The metal utensils of the traditional type were mainly copper, pewter, or silver. Her presence in the house was a vivid testimony to the prosperity of the family, its frugality, and respect for family traditions. Such utensils were sold only at the most critical moments in family life. The utensils that filled the house were made, purchased, and stored by Russian peasants, naturally proceeding from their purely practical use. However, in separate, from the point of view of the peasant, important moments in life, almost every of its objects turned from a utilitarian thing into a symbolic one. For those items that we managed to collect from the residents of the village. Aleksandrovka, the utensils were made of different materials: wood, clay, cast iron, iron. But the tree prevailed.

Washbasin (washbasin)

Three legs, two ears, and a sixth belly- such a riddle was invented by the Russian people about this subject.

Washbasin - a small hanging washbasin. Washstand - a hanging vessel for washing with a spout, like a teapot, bending over when washing. The very words, washstand, washbasin, already speak of the purpose of these household items: for washing and washing hands.

Next to the stove, there was always a towel (a handkerchief or a towel) and a washstand (washstand). The washstand used to be an earthenware jug with two drain spouts on the sides, and only then a copper washstand with one spout appeared. Under it was a wooden tub (gang) where dirty water flowed down. More than once during the day, the hostess rinsed her soiled hands - in a tub of water, the so-called kadce. One of the sayings about her says: "Where the girls are smooth, there is no water in the tub," that is, if the hostesses were lazy, then the tub was empty. And according to legend, it should always be complete.

A washstand is a small vessel that expands or tapers upward. Two rivets are made slightly longer than the rest. At their ends, ears are cut out in which through holes are drilled for hanging the washstand. Two other special rivets are cut from a tree trunk with a knot extending from it. The rivets are hewn out and planed, and then the edges are planed. Through holes are drilled in the knots along the core. The hollow knots will serve as drain spouts for the washstand. The washstand, like the tub over which it is hung, is decorated with carving or burning.

Towers (handicrafts)

Hangs on the wall, dangles,

Everyone grabs at him.

The towel was intended primarily for wiping hands during cooking.

An integral part of the "woman's kut", that is, the female part of the village hut, was a towel or handkerchief. The proof of this is love, the art with which towels were embroidered. And the table towel used to wipe the dishes was called the cup.

RUBER AND ROLLER

Most likely, the first "iron" was a flat, very heavy stone. The clothes were spread out on some flat surface, pressed down with this stone, and left until they were flattened.

Later, irons were braziers filled with hot coals. They were invented in China in the 8th century to iron silk.

Our ancestors, despite the hard peasant labor, where there is sweat, and sometimes blood, tried to be clean and tidy. The ruble and the roll were the helpers in this rural dweller. These are the ancestors of our iron.

Rubel is a wooden board with cut-out grooves for rolling linen.

Dry linen or clothing was wound on an evenly planed stick (roll) and began to roll on the table with a thick rectangular stick with a short rounded handle. Transverse scars were made on the inner working surface. Such an "iron" ruble was called. Seven sweats will come off a neat girl who wants to look neat. But after all

the fabric was mainly linen, it creased very easily and was difficult to smooth.

Used rolls and rubbles and for washing. On the river with such a roll of women, it was as if they were knocking dirt out of wet linen and clothes.

Rubel was often used in home medicine in the treatment of the spine, lower back, that is, as a massager.

IRON

Hisses displeased, bites painfully,
It is dangerous to leave him alone.
You have to get along with him

And you can iron
But ironing is not worth it.

It was only in the 17th century that someone had the idea to heat cast iron irons on a fire. It was desirable to have two of them: while one was being ironed, the other was heated.

Then a charcoal iron appeared. Burning coals were laid inside and ironed.

The word "iron" is considered to be borrowed from the Turkic language in the 18th century.

But there are more versions of the origin of this word: from the disappeared owl "to quench".

KRINKA (KRYNKA)

Carpenters without axes felled a furnace without corners.

But our ancestors had to think not only about beauty, but also about their daily bread, to feed themselves and numerous family members. Therefore, in the peasant economy there were many items that helped in the preparation of food, they were mainly the property of the "woman's kut". So, one of the necessary things was a krynka (krynka) expanding

from top to bottom, an elongated earthen vessel for storing and serving milk on the table.

The word "krinka" (jug) comes from the word "curve".

A characteristic feature of the krynka is a high, rather wide throat, smoothly turning into a rounded body. The shape of the throat, its diameter and height are designed for a hand grip. Milk in such a vessel retains its freshness longer, and when sour it gives a thick layer of sour cream, which is convenient to remove with a spoon. In Russian villages, clay bowls, bowls, and mugs used for milk were also often called krinka.

CAST IRON (CAST IRON)

Narrow down, wide top, not a saucepan ... I was in the bazaar, found myself in a fire. He is not afraid of fire, porridge languishes in it. Many riddles have been invented about such a necessary thing as cast iron.

Cast iron - a large vessel, a pot made of cast iron, later also of an aluminum alloy, round in shape, for stewing and cooking in a Russian oven. This word was also borrowed in the 18th century from the Turkic language. A special feature of cast iron is its shape, which repeats the shape of a traditional stove pot: narrowed towards the bottom, widening towards the top and again tapering towards the throat. This shape allows you to put cast iron in the furnace and take it out of the furnace using a special tool - a grip, which is an open metal ring on a long wooden handle.

The volume is different - from 1.5 to 9 liters. Small capacity cast iron is called a cast iron. Despite the seeming antiquity of this type of tableware, metal cast irons appeared and became widespread only at the very end of the 19th - beginning of the 20th centuries. At that time, industrial cast iron kitchen stoves spread in Russia, in which, instead of a brick vault, there was a panel with removable burners above the furnace firebox, in the holes of which cast iron was also placed with a narrow bottom. In the first third of the 20th century, cast iron with enamel coatings began to be produced. Pig irons produced after the October Revolution, as a rule, had the stamp of the manufacturing plant, indicating the volume in liters.

TUES (TUESOK)

Fock stands, propping up his sides,

He distributes kvass to everyone -

Doesn't take himself a drop!

While cast iron kept cooked food hot for a long time, the iron was designed to keep liquid cold. Therefore, real masters prepared the tuesa. After all, this item should not have lost a drop of liquid, kept it for a long time.

A direct translation of this word "- a box of birch bark".

Tuyes is a cylindrical birch bark box, a box with a tight-fitting lid.

Tuyes - beetroot, beetroot, birch bark capsule with a tight lid and with a bracket or bow in it. The simplest definition: this is a vessel, usually cylindrical in shape, made of birch bark (birch bark).

The container can be divided according to the purpose for liquid and for bulk objects. For liquid, the tuesa is made from chippings, that is, the birch bark is removed from the tree entirely without a cut. For loose objects, the tues are made of layer birch bark.

You can also divide the tuesa according to the form of manufacture. At this point, as your imagination tells you, you can make round, oval, square, triangular, and then you can add any number of corners.

You can divide the tuesa according to the design method: painted, embossed, slotted, slotted in half a layer, scraped and simply with a natural texture.

In addition, the tuesa can be braided. There are a huge number of ways to weave birch.

Tuyos are large and smaller, and very small, high and lower, each of them had its own special purpose. Salt was stored in some tues. She was always treated with special care. She does not like dampness - it gets wet right away, and then, if it dries up, it turns to stone, not gouging. A birch bark bark had an amazing property - it protected it from moisture.

Cow butter, cottage cheese, sour cream, and milk were stored in the tues. The oil in them was not bitter, sour cream was stored for a long time, milk and cottage cheese were not sour - in birch bark tues, these perishable and indispensable products in every family were reliably protected from the effects of heat.

Honey, sunflower, hemp, linseed oil was poured into the tues, you could drink from

birch bark voditsa. And even kvass. In a birch bark tuyeska and the water of the well is cold,

and kvass, as if they just got it from the cellar. And so the masters of the bottom of the tues learned to adjust and adjust, that not a single drop leaked.

With birch bark tues we went to the forest for berries - for raspberries, strawberries, blackberries, lingonberries, blueberries. Children often went to the forest to pick berries - adults had enough other jobs in the summer. For them, they made tuesa - not very large, with comfortable handles. Throughout the winter, in a cellar in a birch bark tues, a berry - cloudberry - was stored without sugar.

This was the case before, in our time, from a purely utilitarian purpose, birch bark tuesa have been transformed into the category of souvenirs, although they have not lost their former purpose, which can be verified on our own experience.

GRIP

Horn, but not a bull,

Enough, but not full,

Gives to people

And he himself goes to rest.

From the Russian stove

Pull the porridge quickly.

The iron pot is very happy

That he was grabbed ...

Mishka Popov got on his horse,

Rode into the fire

Neighs and laughs

He wants to jump out.

The closest assistant to cast iron was a grab. The word was formed in a non-affix way from the verb “to grasp”, since the direct purpose of this object is to grasp, to take. The object is named according to its function: literally - "that with the help of which one grabs, takes".

A grab is a device for moving pots and cast irons in the oven, with the help of a grab they could be removed or installed in the oven. Since it was cooked in a Russian oven, where the fire was open, you had to be careful not to burn yourself.

KEROSINE LAMPS

Blue ocean,

Glass shores

The duck is swimming

The head is on fire.

The fire helped not only in cooking, but also gave light in the dark, this was especially valuable in winter, when it was getting late and getting dark early. Candles appeared very early, but the candle flame was open, which was not safe, and the wind could blow out the candle in the street. These problems were solved with the advent of kerosene, so kerosene lamps appeared.

Kerosene lighting began to spread in the Russian countryside since 1860, from the time of the introduction of Baku kerosene into everyday life. With a kerosene lamp, it was already possible to move boldly around the house and the street, without fear of extinguishing the wick.

The main product on the table was, of course, bread. Therefore, there were many household items on the farm for baking bread.

The new vessel is all in holes.

Filmed in the forest, bent in the house, braided in the middle.

A sieve is an item of utensils - a hoop with a frequent fine mesh stretched over it for filtering, sifting. This word is derived from the verb "sow".

Shito - a device for separating bulk masses according to the size of their components (grains, cereals, sand, etc.). But, basically, the sieve was used to sift flour before kneading the dough. So the flour was saturated with oxygen, and the dough turned out to be fluffy.

STORE AND BENCH

For us, modern people, there is no difference between a bench and a bench. But they are not the same thing. A bench is a long, often without stands, bench, usually reinforced along the wall. The shop was formed from the word "lava" - "bench".

The bench was fixed motionlessly along the wall of the hut, and the bench was equipped with legs, it was moved.

A place on the bench was considered more honorable. The guest could judge the attitude of the owners towards him, depending on where he was seated: on a bench or a bench. They slept on the benches, and various objects were kept under them - tools, shoes, and so on.

The steelyard is not a priest's soul, it will not deceive, - so the people talked about this subject.

The history of the origin of this word is interesting: bezmen is an ancient Russian borrowing from the Turkic language (from the Turk. batman- a measure of weight of about 10 kg or "lucky" - "scales") - the simplest lever scales. The Türkic word was transformed into “steelyard” under the influence of the combination “without exchange” - “without change”.

BEZMEN - hand scales with unequal arm and movable reference point. The marks on the steelyard show first fractions of a pound (quarters, and sometimes eighths), then whole pounds, up to 10; then two pounds, up to 20; five pounds, up to 40; further, where there is still a count, in dozens. The weight on the balance is inaccurate, why is it prohibited in our trade. Large hanging steelyard, counter. In the north, here and in Siberia: weight 2 1/2 pounds, when purchasing certain goods: butter, caviar, fish, hops, etc. Russian steelyard- a metal rod with a constant weight at one end and a hook or pan for the item to be weighed at the other. Balance the steelyard by moving along the rod of the second hook of the cage or loop, which serves as a support for the rod of the steelyard.

CRADLE (CRADLE, CRADLE, CRADLE)

One of the places of honor in the house was occupied by a cradle, a cradle, a cradle, a rocking chair, a cradle, a cradle, a cradle, a cradle. They hung it either to a ring attached to the mat (the upper beam of the hut), or to an ochep (a long flexible stick). The cradle is a hanging cradle. The cradle is a baby cradle, shaky.

The word "cradle" comes from the words "lyuli-lyuli", which they sang while rocking the child, and the shaky from the verb "swirl" (to shake).

And the word "cradle" from "cradle" means "to rock". This word has been known since the 15th century.

There were no separate cots in the peasant huts - the kids slept together, side by side, on the beds. So the shake rocked the little man for an average of 2-3 years.

SPINNER (self-spinning)

I sit on an aspen, I look through a maple, I shake a birch ...

A spinning wheel is an object of folk life, an instrument of labor on which threads were spun.

A spinning wheel is a hand-spinning attachment that was set in motion by a foot pedal.

The primary meaning was “pull”.

On the bottom, made of aspen, the spinner sat down, on the maple ridge she strengthened the tow, and wound the strained threads on the birch spindle. The spinning wheel is a special object, in it different sides of folk life are crossed: it is also an instrument of labor that served a woman from childhood to old age: and an adornment of village gatherings.

The hostesses were especially proud of the spinning wheels: chiseled, carved, painted, which were usually placed in a prominent place. Spinning wheels were not only a tool of labor, but also an adornment of the home. It was believed that the patterns on the spinning wheels protect the home from the evil eye and dashing people.

At the age of 7, peasant girls began to learn how to spin. The father gave the first small elegant spinning wheel to his daughter. Daughters learned to spin, sew, embroider mothers.

OIL CRUSHER (OIL CRUSHER)

Looking at these massive wooden objects, which you can hardly move, it is difficult to imagine that they were knocked down with airy fragrant oil.

Churn , used in the household, was a subject of special pride, because it spoke of prosperity in the house, of satiety. No wonder they talked about a good owner: he has an oily beard ...

STUPA AND PEST

Stupa (stupka) - a vessel in which something is ground or ground with a heavy pestle.

A pestle is a short, heavy rod with a rounded end for pounding something in a mortar. Pestle - a stick rounded at the bottom for grinding some substance in a mortar (by crushing or grinding). This word was formed from the verb "to shove".

The word “stupa” is derived from the word “to step”. But another version is less probable - from the Germanic languages: “what is being pounded”.

Our grandmothers used a mortar to grind poppy seeds, millet, and even pounded dried bird cherry on pies.

A necessary thing in the household was a trough. The owner himself made it from a single piece of wood, there were troughs both for washing and for chopping cabbage.

This word is derived from the same stem as bark, that is, a product made of wood.

Working on the etymology of the names of household items, we came to the following conclusion:

When naming objects necessary in everyday life, our ancestors did not think about euphony and "beauty". And they thought that everyone would understand the purpose of these items. It would be nice for us, modern people, to take note of this feature.

And we want to complete our work with the words of our nugget poet:

But the memory keeps

The warmth of those old days is in my soul

And does not allow you to forget

The history of my country ...

While I was writing the continuation of the article, I thought about the fact that the fit (fit) also falls under the influence of fashion. Everything flows, everything changes, and oversize so popular in recent years is a little ( but only a little) is losing ground, the last shows of winter 2015/16 showed a tangible number of structured images. However, we live in an amazing time when fashion does not dictate, but prompts and directs. The ability to mix different styles, eras and fits is the freedom and flexibility that fashion gives us in the modern world.

Knowing the tools for the right mix does not lose its relevance, but only enriches our stylistic arsenal, so after talking about, let's move on to practice. Namely, how to make friends with each other two such different fits. In fact, everything is very simple, they perfectly interact with each other, exerting a positive influence on each other:

  • structural things help the oversize to take on some shape and create a more collected silhouette,
  • oversize, in turn, adds relaxation, lightness and ease to the structured image.

Structured + Oversized

And further 5 ways to add structure to a voluminous outfit:

Each of the 5 ways can go both on its own and in a pair / three with others. And one more small nuance, with oversized it is better to wear structural shoes that fit on the leg and if boots, then narrow boots or boots that keep their shape are better.

This is not a complete list, but a starting point for experiments. See, try what works best for you. Your style is your everyday choice. The ABC will help you.

Well, if you love an individual approach in revealing your unique beauty and want to understand what suits you and decorates and how to deal with it :), you can find out about our services.
