Slide 2

“And Solomon sat on the throne of David his father, and his reign was very strong” (1 Kings 2:12).

Slide 3

Solomon is the third Jewish king, the legendary ruler of the united kingdom of Israel during its heyday. Son of King David and Bathsheba. He is considered the author of the "Book of Ecclesiastes", the book "The Song of Songs of Solomon", "The Book of Proverbs of Solomon", as well as some psalms. During the reign of Solomon, the Jerusalem Temple was built in Jerusalem - the main shrine of Judaism.

Slide 4

Once Solomon prayed so fervently at night that God appeared to him in a dream. He asked Solomon what he would like most in his life. Solomon replied that most of all he would like wisdom to rule his people correctly and with dignity. God liked the request so much that he endowed the king of Israel with extraordinary wisdom. The proof of this was an incident that happened the very next day.

Slide 5

The women asked Solomon to decide the question of whose son the child is. “And one woman said: Oh, my lord! I and this woman live in the same house; and I gave birth with her in this house. ... This woman also gave birth; and we were together, and there was no stranger with us in the house ...

Slide 6

And this woman's son died in the night ... And she got up at night and took my son from me while I was sleeping, and laid him on her breast, and laid her dead son on mine ... ”(1 Kings 3: 17-20).

Slide 7

Solomon altered the proposed riddle: not whose son, but who is the mother? And he ordered the guard to cut the baby in half.

Slide 8

“And the woman to whom the son was alive answered: O my lord! Give her this child alive and do not kill him. And another woman said: let it be neither me nor you, chop it off. " (1 Kings 3: 26,27). “And the king answered: Give this living child and do not put him to death: she is his mother” (1 Kings 3: 26,27).

Slide 9

The court of King Solomon amazed with unprecedented splendor. There was no king richer than Solomon. And he decided to fulfill the dream of his father David - to build a temple worthy of a powerful king.

Slide 10

Slide 11

The only wall that survived after the destruction of the palace was turned by the Jews into the "Wailing Wall".

Slide 12

Solomon is given special credit for the fact that in a dream he asked only for the granting of wisdom to him. Solomon was considered the personification of wisdom, so there was a saying: "He who sees Solomon in a dream can hope to become wise." He understood the language of animals and birds. When making the court, he did not need to interrogate witnesses, since at one glance at the litigants he found out which of them was right and who was wrong.

Slide 13

The Queen of Sheba People from all corners of the earth flocked to Jerusalem to see firsthand the wisdom of the king. The Queen of Sheba also came to Solomon, wishing to test him with riddles. But Solomon solved all the riddles, and then the Queen of Sheba presented him with unheard-of wealth: "And she gave the king one hundred and twenty talents of gold and a great multitude of incense, and precious stones; never had such a multitude of incense come as the Queen of Sheba gave to King Solomon" (3 Kings 10:10).

Slide 14

However, there is a more frivolous legend on this plot. The Queen of Sheba was known as a clever and beautiful woman, but she had one secret - her extremely hairy legs. And so she always wore a dress up to her feet. However, Solomon easily solved this riddle. He threw a feast in a hall with a mirrored floor. Disgraced, the queen fled in haste from Jerusalem, leaving all her treasures to Solomon.

Slide 15

According to legend, under Solomon, the sign of his father David became the state seal. In Islam, the six-pointed star is called the star of Solomon.

Slide 16

"Thousand and One Nights". Fairy tales and stories. Describes a genie who angered King Solomon and was punished by being locked in a bottle and thrown into the sea. Since the bottle was sealed with the seal of Solomon, the genie was powerless to free himself until many centuries later he stumbled upon a fisherman who opened the bottle.

Slide 17

In his youth, King Solomon was presented with a ring with the words that when it would be very difficult for him, whether sad, or scared, let him remember about the ring and hold it in his hands. The riches of Solomon were not measured, yet another ring - will it greatly increase them?

Slide 18

Once in the kingdom of Solomon there was a crop failure. Pestilence and hunger arose: not only children and women died, even the soldiers were exhausted. The king opened all his bins. He sent merchants to sell valuables from his treasury in order to buy bread and feed the people. Solomon was in dismay - and suddenly he remembered the ring. The king took out the ring, held it in his hands ... Nothing happened. Suddenly he noticed that there was an inscription on the ring. What's this? Ancient signs .... Solomon knew this forgotten language. "EVERYTHING PASSES," he read.

Slide 19

Many years passed ... King Solomon became known as a wise ruler. He got married and lived happily. His wife became his most sensitive and close assistant and advisor. And suddenly she died. Grief and anguish overtook the king. He was not amused by either the dancers and the songstress, or the competitions of wrestlers ... Sadness and loneliness. Approaching old age. How to live with it? He took the ring: "Everything passes"? Longing squeezed his heart. The tsar did not want to put up with these words: out of annoyance, he threw the ring, it rolled - and something flashed on the inner surface. The king raised the ring and held it in his hands. For some reason he had not seen such an inscription before: "IT WILL PASS AND THIS."

Slide 20

Many more years passed. Solomon became an ancient elder. The tsar understood that his days were numbered and while there was still some strength he needed to give the last orders, to have time to say goodbye to everyone, to bless the receivers and children. "Everything passes", "This will pass, too," he recalled, grinned: that's all gone. Now the tsar did not part with the ring. It was already worn out, the old inscriptions were gone. With faint eyes, he noticed that something appeared on the edge of the ring. What is it, some letters again? The king substituted the edge of the ring to the setting rays of the sun - the letters flashed on the edge: "NOTHING PASSES" - Solomon read ...

Slide 21

When passions you are enveloped in flames, With sadness or great joy, When your eyes speak of anger, You cannot control your soul, When your dream suddenly stops flying, Fortune will turn its face away, - You remember Solomon's ring And a wise inscription that everything will pass. When the moment comes even more difficult, And everything will fall on you at once, And you cannot hold back an angry cry, By sending the ring itself and the phrase to the devil, When the sky is completely tightened up So that there is not a single gap in the soul, - Turning the ring backwards, Read on it the words: "It will pass this too!" It will also pass ...

Slide 22

There are many vain words from many dreams. The one who gives to the beggar will not become poor. The wise are silent, so the foolish can pass for the wise if they are silent. Some pour in generously, and he still gets more; and the other is thrifty beyond measure, yet becomes poorer. Three things are incomprehensible to me, and four I do not understand: the path of the eagle in the sky, the path of the serpent on the rock, the path of the ship in the middle of the sea, and the path of a man to the heart of a woman. The crown of the old is the sons of sons. Aphorisms and sayings of King Solomon

Slide 23

Wealth is depleted from vanity, and the one who collects by labor multiplies it. WEALTH The prudent one sees trouble, and takes refuge; but the inexperienced go ahead and are punished. WORLD'S WISDOM Whoever rejoices in misfortune will not remain unpunished. VICTIMS It is better to live in a corner on the roof than with a quarrelsome wife in a spacious house. FAMILY

  • By marrying the daughter of the Egyptian pharaoh, Solomon not only put an end to the half-thousand-year enmity between the Jews and the Egyptians, but also received the Canaanite Gezer from the pharaoh as a dowry.
  • Then Solomon took up the renewal of relations with David's longtime friend, the Phoenician king Hiram - the northern neighbor of the kingdom of Israel. It was rumored that it was with the aim of rapprochement with neighboring peoples and strengthening his power that Solomon took as his wives Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Sidonians and Hittites, who belonged to the noble families of these peoples.

  • 12 golden lions and the same number of golden eagles sat opposite each other on the steps of the throne of the king of Israel.
  • When the king ascended the throne, the lions, with the help of a mechanical device, extended their paws so that Solomon could lean on them. In addition, the throne itself was moved at the request of the king. When Solomon, ascending to the throne, reached the last step, the eagles lifted him up and seated him on a chair.

Slide content of the presentation:

Slide 1... In the fourth year of his reign, King Solomon began to build the temple of Jerusalem.

Slide 2... The place was Mount Moriah, once consecrated by the sacrifice of Abraham and the appearance of an Angel in the time of David.

Slide 3... This mountain consisted of three terraces, which rose one above the other with steep ledges.

Slide 4... Seven years later, the magnificent building was erected and arranged.

Slide 5... During the construction of the temple, 30,000 Jews and 180,000 foreigners worked under the supervision of 3,600 supervisors.

Slide 6... The plan of the temple repeated the plan of the tabernacle, only on a much larger scale.

Slide 8... Each side of this courtyard was 500 steps long. This courtyard was led by three copper gates from the city; a marble colonnade marched around him.

Slide 9... Above it, on the middle terrace, an inner courtyard was built (the courtyard of the priests, the courtyard in front of the House of the Lord).

Slide 11... The Copper Sea was established on 12 copper oxen. It was five cubits in height and as thick as a palm. The diameter of this vessel was 10 cubits. The sea was intended for washing the sacrificial parts of the animals.

Slide 12... Behind the courtyard rose the temple building itself, lined with white marble.

Slide 13... As in the tabernacle, the temple was divided into two parts: the sanctuary and the Holy of Holies.

Slide 14... The sanctuary was inaccessible to the gaze of the people: they saw only the majestic entrance to it.

Slide 15... In front of him was the tower of the vestibule.

Slide 16... At the entrance stood two pillars made of copper, each 18 cubits high. Above the pillars were brass crowns covered with braided nets. 200 pomegranates in two rows covered each crown on top of the pillar.

Slide 17... In the sanctuary there were 10 golden lamps and the same number of golden meals for the offering bread.

Slide 18... In front of the entrance to the Holy of Holies there was a golden altar for the smoking of incense.

Slide 19... The wall and ceiling of the Holy of Holies, or otherwise davira, were lined with cedar planks. Davir was intended to store the ark of the covenant of the Lord. In the davir were placed two cherubim of an olive tree, five cubits high. The span of two wings of each Cherub was equal to its height.

Slide 20... Cherubim were so arranged among the davir that the wing of one Cherubim touched one wall, and the wing of the other cherubim touched the other wall, while the other two wings were connected in the middle of the temple wing with wing.

Slide 21... The walls of the temple and the davir were covered with gold, the floor in the davir was also overlaid with gold. Everything was covered with carvings of cherubim, palm trees and blossoming flowers, covered with gold.

Slide 22... The walls of the temple were built of hewn stones of the largest size. Their width was five cubits. The stones were so carefully processed that the eye could not see the lines of their connection. Neither a hammer, nor an adze, nor any other iron weapon could be heard during its construction.

Slide 23... The temple had a wooden roof with a gable tent on the north and south sides with a slight western slope. The roof had pointed spiers and a special device to keep the birds away from the temple.

Slide 24... The location of the mountain made the temple look great. Especially from the side of the Mount of Olives, the temple looked like an unusually majestic building.

Slide 25... Solomon invited the elders of Israel and all the leaders of the tribes to the dedication of the temple. It was a great holiday for the Israeli people.

Slide 26... With a multitude of people gathered with the singing of psalms and with numerous peaceful sacrifices, the priests carried the Ark of the Lord's Covenant from the Tabernacle of David to the new temple. The ark was brought into the Holy of Holies and installed under the wings of the Cherubim.

Slide 27... As the priests left the sanctuary, magnificent singing was heard, trumpets, cymbals and other musical instruments rang out. Everyone, both the trumpets and the singers, in agreement, as one person, praised God.

Slide 28... Suddenly a bright cloud surrounded the temple, and the glory of the Lord filled the house of God. There was a deep silence. At this solemn moment, Solomon fell on his knee before the altar, raised his hands to heaven and said an inspired prayer.

Slide 29... He called on the blessing of God to all the peoples of the earth, prayed to God to receive the prayers of the pagans in the Jerusalem temple, so that together with Israel the whole earth would be awe-inspiring before the name of the God of Israel.

Slide 30... As soon as Solomon finished his prayer, fire fell from heaven and consumed the prepared sacrifices. All who were in the temple fell to the ground and glorified God.

King Solomon

Slide 2

The legendary ruler of the united kingdom of Israel was born of King David and his beloved wife Bathsheba (Bat Sheva). The future king was named Shlomo (Solomon), which in translation from Hebrew means "peacemaker" ("shalom" - "peace", "not war", and "shalem" - "perfect", "whole").

Slide 3

The time of Solomon's reign from 965 to 928 BC called the heyday of the monarchy and Jewish power. During his 40-year reign, Solomon became famous as the wisest and most impassive ruler in the whole world, many legends and tales have been written about his talent for foresight and sensitivity. It was Solomon who built the main shrine of Judaism - the Jerusalem Temple on Mount Zion, which his father David planned to build during his lifetime.

Slide 4

The Almighty two whole times honored Solomon with divine revelation. The first time, even before the construction of the Temple, on the night before the rite of sacrifice in Gibeon, God appeared to Solomon in a dream and offered to ask him for whatever the soul pleased. Solomon asked only for wisdom and ability to govern his people. The generous God promised him wisdom, wealth and glory, and if he fulfills the commandments, then longevity. At the end of the construction of the Temple, God again visited Solomon, saying that he had heeded his prayer for the illumination of the Temple, and that he would protect the dynasty of David only if all sons remained faithful to Him. Otherwise, the Temple will be rejected and the people expelled from the country.

Slide 5

Solomon's politics
By marrying the daughter of the Egyptian pharaoh, Solomon not only put an end to the half-thousand-year enmity between the Jews and the Egyptians, but also received the Canaanite Gezer from the pharaoh as a dowry. Then Solomon took up the renewal of relations with David's longtime friend, the Phoenician king Hiram - the northern neighbor of the kingdom of Israel. It was rumored that it was with the aim of rapprochement with neighboring peoples and strengthening his power that Solomon took as his wives Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Sidonians and Hittites, who belonged to the noble families of these peoples.

Slide 6

Famous legends about Solomon also serve as an indicator of his clairvoyance and intelligence. Once, two women appeared to the king for judgment, who could not divide the baby among themselves - both said that it was her child. Solomon, without hesitation, ordered the baby to be cut in half, so that each woman would get a piece. The first one said: “Cut it, and let no one get it,” to which the second exclaimed, “Better give it to her, but just don’t kill him!”. Solomon decided the court in favor of the second woman, giving the child to her, t. it was she who was his mother.

Slide 7

Once the king turned to the court sage for help. Solomon complained that his life was restless, the passions simmering around him distracted him from politics, he lacked composure, and wisdom did not always help to cope with anger and frustration. The court sage presented the king with a ring engraved with the phrase “It will pass,” and said that the next time he felt an uncontrollable influx of emotions, he would look at the ring and it would be easier for him. The king was delighted with the philosophical gift, but soon the day came when, after reading the inscription "Everything will pass," he could not calm down. The ruler took the ring off his finger and was about to throw it away, but then on the reverse side of the ring he saw another inscription "This will also pass."

Slide 8

12 golden lions and the same number of golden eagles sat opposite each other on the steps of the throne of the king of Israel. When the king ascended the throne, the lions, with the help of a mechanical device, extended their paws so that Solomon could lean on them. In addition, the throne itself was moved at the request of the king. When Solomon, ascending to the throne, reached the last step, the eagles lifted him up and seated him on a chair.

Slide 9

According to most sources, Solomon reigned for about 37 years and died at the age of 52 while overseeing the construction of a new altar. Those close to the king did not immediately bury him in the hope that the ruler simply fell into a lethargic sleep. When the worms began to sharpen the king's staff, Solomon was finally pronounced dead and buried with all the honors.

Slide 10

Solomon's seal

Slide 11

It is known that Solomon's annual income, consisting of trade profits, taxes, and tribute to Arab vassals, was six hundred and sixty-six talents (about twenty-two thousand eight hundred and twenty-five kilograms of gold), not counting supplies in kind collected from the Israeli population.

Slide 12

The main part of the Israeli dwelling was a large room on the first floor. The women cooked there food and baked bread, and the whole family gathered there for joint meals. There was no furniture. Even wealthy people ate and slept on mats. The rooms on the upper floor were climbed by stone steps or wooden ladders. In the summer we slept on rooftops, where a refreshing breeze blew. They ate a lot of onions and garlic. The staple food was fried and boiled wheat, various cereals, lentils, cucumbers, beans, fruits and honey. Meat was eaten only on holidays. They drank mainly sheep's and cow's milk, while wine was drunk very sparingly.
Ruins of Megido

Slide 13

Archaeological finds introduced us to many aspects of life at that time. In particular, they testify to a fairly high standard of living. Countless expensive cosmetic bowls made of alabaster and ivory, variously shaped bubbles, tweezers, mirrors and hairpins prove that Israeli women of that era cared about their appearance. They used perfume, blush, creams, myrrh, henna, balsam oil, cypress bark powder, red nail dye and blue eyelid. Most of these drugs were imported from abroad, and such imports are typical for a rich country.

Slide 14

Today, the only surviving treasure from all of Solomon's wealth is Solomon's 43 mm pomegranate, which King Solomon presented to the high priest of the First Temple on the day of the opening of the sanctuary. In Israel, the pomegranate is considered a symbol of prosperity and prosperity. From the temple itself, destroyed in 587 BC. Nebuchadnezzar II, nothing remains, and today only a fragment of the Second Temple, erected on the site of the first - the Jerusalem Wailing Wall, 18 meters high, reminds of the Jerusalem Temple. Massive stones weighing up to 700 tons are held only by their own weight.
