4 ideas for combining discounts and bonuses to attract buyers

Bonuses or discounts?

From a business point of view, bonuses are such an "advanced" discount. They work both for retention (bonuses must first be accumulated) and for development (bonuses, as a rule, are accrued in portions at the rate of XX bonuses for every YYY rubles - it is beneficial for the buyer to “get” up to a certain amount in order to get more bonuses). And besides, while the buyer accumulates bonuses, the money remains in the seller's turnover.

The discount is dearer, clearer and closer to the buyer. It is easier to calculate the amount of savings, and you can get these savings here and now.

And what if both of them…. ? (and you can do it without bread)

It turns out that the buyer is more willing to go where there are discounts. And it is more profitable for business to use bonuses. Is it possible to "make friends" these types of incentives and attract a buyer by combining discounts and bonuses in one purchase?

Hmm ... how does it work?

Here are some examples of how the combination of discounts and bonuses "works" to achieve business goals.

Option 1. "Necessary" products
Specify a group of products or individual products for which a percentage discount is provided and bonuses are accrued.

The point is to "nudge" the buyer to choose certain products, the sale of which brings more benefits to the business. For a retailer, for example, it can be products of its own brand.

Option 2. Off-season product
Define products or product groups for which a percentage discount is given, but bonuses are not awarded.

For example, these are sale items. Sale of last season's collections at a discount frees up funds and eliminates the need to store off-season items. At the same time, the loss in turnover due to the discount is not accompanied by an increase in the company's “bonus debt” to customers.

Option 3. Limit price
Define products or product groups for which a percentage discount is given, but you cannot pay for these products with bonuses.

The issue of marginality is especially acute where the price of a product is regulated not so much by the seller as by the manufacturer: for example, in pharmacies. This mechanic will allow you to give an attractive price for a “hot product”, but at the same time not lose in profit.

Option 4. Higher, higher, average check
Specify a percentage discount on a check, the amount of which after the bonus discount exceeds the average check at the points of sale.

Everything is simple: if you want to save more, buy more.

How to live with it?

“It's too difficult,” you say, and you’ll be right. The cashier cannot keep this in his head. It is impossible to implement such a system of customer motivation without a special hardware and software complex that will “remember” all these rules of accrual, write-off and provision - and will execute everything strictly as you have determined.

So, the cost of expensive hardware and software? “Either that, or using the Dinect cloud service to automate loyalty programs, advanced enough to make it easy to use such complex mechanics.

Anyone can become a participant of the program individual who actually made the purchase of goods (approx. a purchase means payment for the goods in the amount of 100% in cash or by credit card by personal visit).

The client agrees with the rules and agrees to the processing of personal data, including collection, systematization, accumulation, storage. This measure is necessary to identify participants in the loyalty program, as well as to ensure the procedure for recording the accumulation and use of bonuses, sending information about promotions, the number of bonuses on the account, if the client agrees. The site company reserves the right to amend the terms of the program. To receive bonuses, you must register and confirm your Email /

Terms of accrual and write-off of bonuses

Bonuses are awarded for any purchase and are credited immediately after payment in cash or by credit card.
For every 20 rubles spent, 1 bonus will be credited to your account.
When paying for the order, you can pay up to 10% of the order value with bonuses.
1 ruble = 1 bonus.

For example, if you buy 3,000 rubles, 150 bonuses will be credited. The next time you order, for example, in the amount of 2,000 rubles, you will be able to pay 150 rubles. due to bonuses and pay in fact only 1850 rubles.

Please note: the bonus program works in conjunction with a discount system,
that is, regardless of your personal discount, the bonus program ALWAYS works!

Let's figure it out in terms of the amount of profit (without taking into account the general situation on the market, the situation with stock of goods, competitors' behavior), how much more profitable it is to stimulate the client with bonuses than discounts. You can also see why in situations where, for example, a 25% discount leads to a loss, a bonus of the same size allows you to make a profit.

Suppose that the cost of the product you are selling is 1000 rubles. You sell it at a price of 1300 rubles. Thus, the margin is 30% or 300 rubles.

10% discount case.

You provide the client with a 10% discount - that's 130 rubles. Thus, your profit is reduced to 170 rubles, that is, by 43% relative to the original value.

Now your markup is 17%.

The case of granting a bonus of 10%.

Unlike a discount, a bonus (points, miles, thanks) is provided upon purchasing an item, but can only be used on the next purchase. Consider a model in which bonuses can be either saved or spent. That is, if the client chooses to spend bonuses, they will not be credited for this purchase.

Suppose a customer bought an item for RUB 1,300. and received a 10% bonus. The client will be credited with 130 bonuses, with no additional spending.

With the 2nd purchase, the client will buy the product for rubles and bonuses, spending 1170 rubles. and 130 bonuses.

In this case, the client will spend 1300 + 1170 rubles on two purchases. and 130 bonuses for goods worth 2600 rubles.

The total customer discount for the 2nd purchase was:

(2600 – 1300 – 1170) / 2600 = 0,05 = 5%

Statistics show that if there are bonuses that the buyer can use to pay off, the average re-purchase amount will be higher, then the size of the actual discount will be less.

If the client makes the third purchase in the amount of 1300 rubles. and will again receive a 10% bonus, he will be credited with another 130 bonuses, which he can spend on the 4th purchase.

The total customer discount for the 3rd purchase was:

(3900 – 1300 – 1170 – 1300) / 3900 = 0,0333 = 3,33%

With the 4th purchase, the client will buy the product for rubles and bonuses, having already spent 5200 rubles. and 260 bonuses.

The total customer discount for the 4th purchase was:

(5200 – 1300 – 1170 – 1300 – 1170) / 5200 = 0,05 = 5%

With the 5th purchase, the client will pay 6500 rubles for the product. and add 130 bonuses to the 6th purchase.

The total customer discount for the 5th purchase will be:

(6500 – 1300 – 1170 – 1300 – 1170 – 1300) / 6500 = 0,04 = 4%

After the 7th purchase, in the case of a 10% bonus, the profit will be 1710 rubles. If we just gave a 10% discount on the purchase, the profit would be: 170 × 7 = 1190 rubles.

This means that in this bonus example, you earned 44% more.

Conclusion: from the point of view of profit mathematics, providing a 10% bonus to a client with such a markup is almost 1.5 times more profitable than a 10% discount.

For other values of the product markup, I have prepared a table for you that answers the question: what is the difference in profitability between discounts and bonuses.

Once again, I would like to draw your attention to the fact that in the above calculations, the most frequent model of using bonuses was used: when buying, bonuses are either accumulated or written off.

Did you know that the amount of money determines not only the level of family wealth, but also the harmony of relationships. Family relationships reflect both a friendly solution to financial problems in a couple, and scandals between partners on a monetary basis.

If money is a big problem in your family, then it is worth doing family accounting and learning how to plan a budget. You need to consider all the savings options and try them in practice.

Today, a direct benefit for the buyer is discounts - discount and bonus cards of stores; Sberbank cardholders will also be very interested in his program “Thank you from Sberbank”. How to use all this and how much you can save on it with the readers of the magazine Reconomica shared Tatiana from the city of Rostov-on-Don.

Hello everyone. My name is Tatyana. I live in the beautiful city of Rostov-on-Don. I am 28 years old, I am married. My husband and I belong to the middle social class. We both work, earn good money, but, of course, like everyone else, we strive for more and do not mind saving on something.

Saving is, of course, a moot point. Not everything can be saved and not everything needs to be saved.

We approach saving, as they say, after weighing all the pros and cons, since we do not want to face the well-known saying: a miser pays twice.

Where we shop most often

We shop almost every day. We rarely buy something (equipment, furniture), we buy something (clothes, shoes, household goods, cosmetics) more often, but we buy groceries every day. And most often we buy them in the same stores that are closer to home.

First of all, after weighing all our expenses wisely, we have compiled a list of daily purchases and places where we buy them.

And we ended up with several stores in which we constantly make certain purchases.

Supermarkets "Magnet" and "Pyaterochka"

A large number of supermarkets began to open in our city (now they are called "Magnet at the House"), "Pyaterochka", and ordinary small stalls and shops within walking distance began to close.

There are many such supermarkets in all cities.

Of course, all these supermarkets are playing with prices, arranging promotions, making discounts and luring us, and we, of course, need to make a profitable purchase and save money.

Someone saves due to lack of funds, while someone simply suffers from addiction to purchases for promotions and discounts.

Previously, in our city there were only large hypermarkets "Auchan", "O'Key", "Metro" with low and favorable prices, but now good promotions can be seen both in Magnet and Pyaterochka, which are located near the house ...

We almost always buy food, clothing, appliances and much more in hypermarkets or supermarkets.

Discount cards of shops

Everyone probably knows and uses discount cards in stores. They give a certain discount, or accumulate points, bonuses, in general, they are available in almost any store. There are even promotions only for holders of discount cards.

Discount cards of different stores.

If you do not have a discount card of the store where you constantly shop, then I think you should ask about it at the checkout or from the store administrator.

Saving on a discount card is, of course, beneficial, but we learned another interesting way to save more.

Cashless payments and bonus points

To save more, my husband and I make purchases by bank transfer, with a Sberbank debit card.

Why Sberbank? - this is the most famous bank, very convenient, they even have their own application and every second bank has a card of this bank.

Thank you from Sberbank program

More to the point, Sberbank has its own program called "Thank you from Sberbank."

It consists in the fact that for purchases paid with a Sberbank card, you get bonus points, the so-called "Thank you", which can be spent in the future in partner stores.

You can profitably pay for housing and communal services using the Sberbank program.

They have many partners, the entire list can be viewed on their website. In general, you get bonuses for using this card. Partners are grocery stores, clothing stores, cafes, etc. We pay for all our purchases with a Sberbank card and collect “Thank you” bonuses, and spend them in different partner stores.

Bonus points and "Pyaterochka"

Bonus points are credited to your card in the ratio 1 bonus = 1 ruble. The easiest way to collect points is to pay everywhere with a card (we have a debit card). The standard points accumulation program is 0.5% of the purchase amount.

In some stores, bonus points can be used to pay for only a part of the purchase, for example, in the Pyaterochka supermarket you can pay 100% of the purchase, and this is not a joke.

For any purchase, 0.5% of the amount spent is returned to our card. That is, if my husband and I went, for example, to the Pyaterochka store and made a purchase in the amount of 1,000 rubles, then 5 bonus points were returned to the card. If every day we make purchases with an approximate cost of 1000 rubles, then in a month we will have accumulated 150 bonus points, which is 150 rubles.

Further, consider already according to your purchases and needs. By the way, Pyaterochka has got its own discount cards this year. We have them too. They are cumulative, and you can use the accumulated points to pay in their store.

Pyaterochka now has its own map.

Partner stores of Sberbank

Bonuses general plan- 0.5%, but if purchases are made in certain stores, then the bonuses are higher.

For example, we go to Burger King almost free of charge. Why? Because there you can pay the entire purchase price with “Thank you from Sberbank” points, the only thing is that you only need to pay 1 ruble in cash.

How much can you save and on what

Also in shoe stores, for example, "KARI", there are also big bonuses, up to 4.5%. We bought autumn shoes for the amount of 3,000 rubles and received the maximum points, 4.5% of the amount is 135 rubles.

Shop "L'Etoile" returns 7% of the amount spent. We always buy cosmetics and eau de toilette there. Here, too, consider the benefits according to your needs.

We buy toilet water and cosmetics about once every two months. The sum is rather big, at least 7,000-10,000 rubles for two. Benefit depending on the cost of the purchase, if you take the maximum, then 7% of 10,000 rubles is 700 points = 700 rubles.

How to get great benefits

We go to the cinema, also paying by card. Kinomax, for example, gives 10% points.

In the same spirit, we make the necessary purchases in certain stores and receive bonus points, which we then pay with.

We have our own car, which we use all the time. My husband's job is connected with constant traveling and, of course, I want to save money on gas stations.

Sberbank gives this opportunity - we refuel at a gas station, pay with a card and receive 5% bonuses.

And there are a lot of such examples. But basically, we collect points and pay them in grocery stores, or where there is a 100% possibility of paying with points.

What you need to use the program

If you want to save money wisely, sit down and think about your purchases, go to the Sberbank website and read about this program. Draw your own conclusions.

If you do make purchases in those stores where you can get “Thank you” bonuses, then you should take the opportunity to save on this.

How to apply for a Sberbank card and activate the service

If you do not have a Sberbank card yet, then it is easy to get it, for this you need a passport and ten minutes of your time. The card is issued to you personally and your name will be on it. There are a lot of Sberbank branches in each city, so there will be no problems with the appeal.

There are branches of Sberbank in almost every locality.

Then you activate the service "Thank you from Sberbank", if you can't do it yourself, the bank has consultants who will help you. For ease of use, you can download the application of this bank in order to keep abreast of all operations and see the number of accumulated points.

Saving should be done wisely.

I hope that you will be interested in my idea, which will help you save money wisely. Good luck to you.
